An
Inconvenient Truth is the academy award-winning documentary film
from director Davis Guggenheim which offers a passionate and inspirational
look at one man's fervent crusade to halt global warming's deadly
progress in its tracks by exposing the myths and misconceptions
that surround it.
With
wit, smarts and hope, AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH ultimately brings
home Al Gore's persuasive argument that we can no longer afford
to view global warming as a political issue - rather, it is the
biggest moral challenges facing our global civilization.

for more information about the film, and how you can take action
to help stop global warming.

THE
GREENING OF
THE CHURCH
In
past years we've had a Christmas tradition at our church called
"the greening of the church." On the first Sunday of Advent,
the sanctuary would be decorated with evergreens in symbolic celebration
of the everlasting life that Jesus' birth heralds for all Christians.
Today the "greening" of the church calls for broadening
the scope and meaning. It includes living in covenant with God's
creation in the natural world, and being committed stewards of our
natural resources.
Our
congregation is learning to be better stewards. We try to deepen
our understanding of how to live in harmony with nature, and to
share our planet's limited resources with all of God's people.
We
try to learn to live simply, so that others might simply live.
Our
early steps on the path:
-
Showed
the film "An Inconvenient Truth" to our congregation,
and followed up with an information session led by Jeni Krencicki,
a volunteer trained by Al Gore's education team. Jeni currently
works as a volunteer presenter of Al Gores global warming
slide show and as a staff member of the U.S. Climate Pledge.
She may be contacted by email at jennifer.krencicki@yale.edu
if you would like to have a similar presentation done in your
community.
Conducted
an energy inventory at church and made improvements to conserve
energy--replaced light bulbs with new energy saving bulbs,
fixed leaking plumbing
-
Have
ordered special hot beverage cups that are made from recycled
paper and are compostable
-
Started
a young adult group interested in researching green practices
and resources.
-
Started
this web page of recycling and environmental living resources,
hoping to expand it with your contributions and recommendations!
