Small Group Study

To journey together we are forming multiple small groups to meet during the weeks of Lent. Pastor Eileen has selected a variety of study guides that offer a variety of perspectives.  If you would like to offer your home as a meeting place or meet at the church as a facilitator or participant, please email Pastor Eileen. Small groups can begin the week of February 23. Here are some of the study guides to consider:

Journey to Hope Companions

Based on the sermon series, this study will focus on the Journey to Hope. As the rule goes, you don’t hike alone and by becoming a partner you can share an exciting seven-week journey to explore possibilities of what can happen when we journey with Christ and allow him to be in the “driver’s seat”.  The group will encounter God’s word and the actions involved in this journey to the cross and address issues that may enhance or impede the journey. A unique component of this series is to “Journal the Journey” through personal reflections and also the weekly mile markers. Interested in this group? Mosaic: When God Uses All the Pieces by Shane Stanford

Examine how the God of the universe uses the broken pieces of our lives to reframe our purpose, turning our discarded hopes and dreams into something beautiful and useful—a mosaic in which God uses all of the pieces. This seven-session study provides one lesson for each week in Lent. Each lesson includes a key Scripture reference, a brief reading, questions discussion, a brief prayer, and guided help for the coming week. Interested in this group? 24 Hours that Changed the World by Adam Hamilton

No single event in human history has received more attention than the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth. In this book, Adam Hamilton guides us through the last twenty-four hours of Jesus' life. Each chapter is designed to help the reader experience and understand the significance of Jesus' suffering and death in a way you have never done before. Interested in this group? Gospeled Lives by John Indermark

What does it mean to be gospeled? John Indermark suggests that an encounter with the living Christ demands response. Gospeled Lives covers biblical characters who had such an encounter. Some of these persons responded with joy and gratitude. Some ignored or rejected Christ’s offer of good news. Each chapter has five daily readings and an introductory overview to the week’s theme. Interested in this group? Send your information and we will be in contact.

A Place at the Table by Chris Sealy

In a culture built on consumption, it is easy to forget the poor that Jesus cared so much about. Chris Seay invites readers on a journey of self-examination, discipline, and renewed focus.  "A Place at the Table" includes a short chapter for each of those 40 days with Scripture, reflections and prayers. The six-session DVD, shot in such locations as the Holy Land, Haiti, and Ecuador, will help small groups go on a passionate journey. Interested in this group?
