Visitors
Welcome to Walnut Creek United Methodist Church, the first church in Walnut Creek!
Founded in 1869, we are celebrating our 140th anniversary this year. We have a bold vision and a bright future that we hope includes you. We are a church that seeks to help people in the community who are hurting and in need. We are a Reconciling Congregation that welcomes people regardless of country of origin, marital status, sexual orientation, or economic condition. We are a church large enough to offer ministry opportunities for all, yet small enough to care for each person.
United Methodists have a strong social witness throughout the world. We are part of a worldwide movement that is making a difference in 143 countries. The United Methodist Church has a history of understanding God through the Bible, tradition, reason and experience.
The call of the Christian faith is to be active in love. It is a great joy for me to be a part of the life of this warm church. It feeds my soul, deepens my faith, renews my hope, and gives meaning to my daily life. Join us Sunday morning to begin a journey of faith with us.
Blessings,
Rev. Eileen Lindsay
Who We Are
We come from all over Contra Costa county, and include people of many different backgrounds who travel here to find a progressive community of faith.
What should I expect when I visit?
To be greeted at the door by long-time and new members, to be seated in a sanctuary with beautiful faceted glass windows, to see the announcments, song lyrics and sermon visuals projected on 8 discreetly located screens around the sanctuary, to have the opportunity to be prayed for by our blessing team for your joys and concerns, to hear a 40 member choir, a pipe organ and depending on the Sunday, a bell choir, children's choir or any number of other musical offerings.
What do you have for my children?
Children's Sunday school, preschool and elementary school aged Children's choirs, Summer Music Camp, after school tutoring for children, youth fellowship and youth mission opportunities, youth confirmation classes. There is a children's time in the worship hour about 15 minutes into the service, after which children may go to their Sunday School Classes. On the first Sunday of the month, children go directly to their classes at 9:30 am and return to the sanctuary during the last 10 minutes to receive communion with the congregation.
What do you have for me?
Everything from a way to build your relationship with God to music to mission ourtreach programs to fellowship groups.
What do I wear?
In the summer, some of our ushers wear Hawaiian shirts. Women wear skirts, pants or dresses and youth may be wearing "holy" jeans and flip flops. You see some men in suits and ties and some women wearing dresses and even an occasional hat. Please wear whatever is comfortable for you.
Where do I park?
We have 104 parking spaces to the front side of the sanctuary and up the driveway behind the Education building. On Sundays, we have permission to park in Wendy's lot off N. Main St. A stairway connects the back of their lot to our lot.
