LOCAL MISSION OPPORTUNITIES...

EXTENDED FAMILY

The Extended Family works with the congregation to provide furniture and household items to previously homeless families and helps them move into their own home with dignity. The Extended Family partners with SHELTER, Inc. which locates their housing and the Extended Family program  providing the household items.

The program is always in need of the following items:

Bedroom furniture: Twin, full and queen mattresses, frames, dressers, lamps.  Living Room furniture: Sofa (no sleepers), end tables, chairs and lamps. Kitchen: Table with a least 4 chairs, plates, bowls, serving bowls, cups and mugs, glasses, pots and pans, skillets, silverware, manual can openers, kitchen handtowels. Linens: Sheets, pillowcases, towels, washcloths, blankets, comforters. Cleaning Supplies: Cleaners, bucket, mop, broom, dut pan, trash can, vacuum cleaner.

All items need to be clean and in good condition.

BUS STOP

The Bus Stop After School program is a community outreach ministry. Although the congregation is surburban, it is surrounded by low-income apartments in which a large number of immigrant families live.  The Bus Stop program provides children with tutoring from caring adults, and regular exposure to the arts, as an expression of it's commitment to share God's love in tangible ways.

The program serves children  in grades one through five two afternoons a week, Monday and Tuesday.  We currently have 17 children enrolled and have 18 volunteers.

If you would like to volunteer or get more information about this wonderful program please contact Pam Abbey, Bus Stop Coordinator at dramaqueen@astound.net.

 SHELTER MEALS

The church provides meals to a local shelter twice a month.  On the second Friday of the month church volunteers prepare a wonderful, nutritious homecooked meal in our kitchen that serves about 75 people. On the last Friday of the month we provide pizza, salad and drinks to those staying at the shelter.  If you would like to be part of this outreach ministry please contact the church office.
